I am an ex RI(JC) physics tutor with more than 15 years of teaching experience.
With my experience teaching in top MOE schools (Raffles Institution, NJC, ACJC, Dunman High) I know what the examiners are thinking when they set an exam question. I have been part of the teams setting and vetting prelim exams in these schools. I CAN confirm this: your teachers use the same old tricks over and over again!
I live by the quote by Albert Einstein,
"If you can't explain it to a six-year-old, then you don't understand it yourself"
3 Reasons to choose Aces in the Pocket
1. Ace your Physics exam with as little effort as possible!
Minimal memorisation + understanding of concepts before blindly substituting numbers into a physics formula to obtain an answer! (admit it, that's what you did in your last physics exam)
News flash: it may have worked in secondary school, but it doesn't work for H2 Physics.
Reason: Physics is one of the LEAST content heavy sciences at the H2 level. Many students score poorly because they memorise many physics formulae and blindly use them without understanding! Many exam questions target such misconceptions (or the lack of any concept) and most often a wrong answer is obtained.
2. ALL Classes taught by Mr Chew
I am the sole founder, owner, teacher of Aces in The Pocket Learning Centre.
With 15 years of teaching experience, and 5 years teaching at Raffles Institution, I will teach you ALL the tricks the examiners in the exams.
Other Centres promise A grades for your exams, but information of their teachers are SCARCE (sometimes non existent) on their website. Think about it, what makes their % A rate so high then? If it was the quality of their teachers, they would be marketing that much more than free food/drinks and % A rates higher than national average.
Perhaps their notes and summaries or worksheets are GOATED, but then, if that was the case, all you will need to do is to buy those notes off carousell at a fraction of their tuition fees.
TLDR; The answer lies in the delivery of the concepts in an easy to understand manner, so that you can APPLY these concepts over and over untl it becomes part of you. THEN physics becomes easy to score and almost 2nd nature!
3. No Lock in/Tie down period
No deposits required. Pay at the start of each month, if you feel that the lessons are not to your liking, there is no notice period to serve.
Reason: I am confident that you will learn and enjoy my physics lessons, I DO NOT collect a large sum of deposit upon registration nor require a few months notice period. I want to teach students who learn well from me (and my teaching style) rather than trapping students in with such practices.
Any centre collecting a huge amount of $$$ from you is trying to lock you in! (again, ask yourself: if they were that good, why would they fear students quitting?) What if the tutor working at that centre quits halfway through the term and the replacement tutor isn't as good or doesn't vibe with you?
PS: They wouldn't refund you the remaining fees for the term!
A brief history of Mr Chew
My main point: I understand how many students struggle with the balancing act of academics and CCA commitments. I too have been through that, and I can share with you how with the right thinking and understanding of physics concepts (and a little practice) you CAN score A for physics EASILY.
I graduated from NJC and was the canoeing/dragonboat captain of the school team. I had trainings 6 days a week; every morning before school started (PT training) and every afternoon after school. Saturdays mornings were water trainings at Macritchie Reservoir.
I had to balance my studies, CCA, running the canoe team and organising VIA for the team. But physics was always the subject that I had most joy studying (because there was the least to memorise). I enjoyed math, but physics was on a different level. It brought MEANING to the math I learnt. Numbers and operations can have physical meaning or at least, can be applied to solve real world problems!
TLDR: I scored 7 distinctions (PCME GP PW & H3 Physics) in my A levels.
As my students sometimes say:
Come Learn from the GOAT
